Julie Alexander is honored to serve residents of the Jackson community in the state Capitol. She represents the 64th House District, which includes the city of Jackson and Concord, Hanover, Napoleon, Parma, Pulaski, Sandstone, Spring Arbor, and Summit townships.
Now in her third and final term in the House of Representatives, Rep. Alexander chairs the Agriculture Committee, where she helps guide state policy to help our farmers. She also serves on the Commerce and Tourism Committee, Health Policy Committee, and Local Government and Municipal Finance Committee.
After graduating from Northwest High School and Western Michigan University, Rep. Alexander continued her education at Michigan State University and started in the teaching profession. During her 22-year career as a passionate educator, she taught both middle school English language arts and adult education.
While not born and raised on a farm, Rep. Alexander has wholeheartedly embraced the lifestyle of a farmer alongside her husband, Jeff. Along with education, agriculture has become one of her passions. The Alexanders own and operate their family farm in Hanover Township, where they farm about 1,700 acres of corn, soybeans, hay, and wheat. Until recently, they also cared for a dairy herd on their farm. The family remains active in Michigan’s agriculture community.
Rep. Alexander has received many awards for her public service, agricultural efforts, and commitment to her local community. These include: Michigan Great Lakes International “Equine Legislator of the Year” (2022), Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts “Communicator Award” (2022), Michigan Association of Fairs and Exhibitions “Legislator of the Year” (2022), Habitat for Humanity of Michigan “Public Official of the Year” (2021), Jackson County Farm Bureau “Supporter of the Year” (2021), American Conservative Union “Award for Conservative Achievement” (2021) and “Award for Conservative Excellence” (2017, 2018), Potato Growers of Michigan “Peeler in Our Community” (2020), Michigan Allied Poultry Industries “Golden Egg” (2019), Michigan Association of Counties “Community Advocate” (2019), Friends of Corn “Legislator of the Year” (2019), Michigan Future Farmers of America “Agricultural Education Supporter” (2019), Michigan Great Lakes International Draft Horse Show “Appreciation of Service” (2019), Michigan School Counselor Association “Legislator of the Year” (2018), Michigan Chamber of Commerce “Champion of Commerce” (2017-2018), NFIB “Guardian of Small Business” (2017-2018), Jackson County Great Start Collaborative “Great Start in Life” (2014), Center for Family Health “Community Health Champion” (2014), United Dairy Industry of Michigan “Excellence in Dairy Promotion” (2013), Jackson County Farm Bureau “Service to Agriculture” (2004), and Jackson County “Dairy Woman of the Year” (1993).
