Professional
Rep. Griffin was a Parchment Middle School teacher of sixth-grade Special Education and eighth-grade English from 1999-2005 and was a guest teacher at Mattawan Consolidated Schools from 2010 until her election to the state House. She holds a Michigan Excellence in Public Service Series certificate.

Public Office and Affiliations
Rep. Griffin was elected to two terms as a Van Buren county commissioner, serving from 2013 to 2016. She also served as vice chair of the commission from 2015 to 2016. She was chair of the Area Agency on Aging for Region IV, Van Buren County Mental Health Court and Van Buren County Drug Treatment Court. Rep. Griffin also was a policy board member for the Kalamazoo Area Transportation Study and a member of the Michigan State University Extension Advisory Council from 2013 to 2016.

As a former educator, she has a special interest in preparing the next generation of Michigan workers – especially high school students and young adults – to enter the labor force with the skills and talents needed to thrive in the modern economy. She has introduced legislation that would increase the flexibility of a student’s high school curriculum so that each student would be more familiar with and better equipped to succeed in post-high school experiences. She is passionate about challenging parents, students, and employers to expand the definition of post-high school training. Our mutual goals should always include multiple career path choices for young people.

Personal
Beth has two children, Hannah and Joey, and lives in Mattawan.
