ABOUT THE REPRESENTATIVE

District

State Rep. Bill G. Schuette is currently serving his second term in the Legislature. He was first elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in November 2022. Schuette represents the 95th House District, which includes all of Midland County, and Beaverton, Billings and Tobacco townships in Gladwin County.

Committees and Roles

Rep. Schuette serves as Chair of the House Rules Committee. He also serves on the House Finance Committee, the House Insurance Committee and the House Judiciary Committee.

At the start of the 2025-26 legislative term, Schuette was appointed Chair of the House Select Committee on Protecting Michigan Employees and Small Businesses. Through his role as Chair, Schuette led discussion and helped advance reforms that protected workers and small businesses owners following a controversial ruling from the Michigan Supreme Court in July of 2024.

Schuette is also a member of the Michigan Legislative Council, a bipartisan, bicameral body of legislators that provides bill drafting, research and other services to members of the Legislature. Just six members of the Michigan House are selected to serve on the council.

Education

Schuette is a lifelong Midlander who attended Midland Public Schools K-12 and graduated from Dow High School. He earned his B.S and M.A. with honors from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.

Working for you

Schuette has consistently fought to lower taxes and other cost-of-living burdens for Michigan workers, small business owners and families. Components of his plan to raise the Earned Income Tax Credit and make it retroactive so people could keep more of their hard-earned money sooner were eventually incorporated into a signed law. It was a plan Schuette prioritized immediately to start the 2023-24 legislative term.

He also has advocated for dedicated funding for dam restoration in the Four Lakes area and helped secure flood reduction plan funding for Midland following catastrophic flooding that occurred in May of 2020.

Through his prior role on the House Appropriations Committee, Schuette has worked to protect taxpayers in Midland and Gladwin counties by pushing for responsible spending that gives people the best return on their dollars.

Professional and personal background

Schuette served as an Intelligence Officer for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) where he worked as one of the agency’s leading counter-drug analysts and was sent to Mexico in support of U.S. Special Operations Command. In 2020, the DIA deployed Schuette to the Middle East in support of Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve, which was the U.S. military’s principal counter-ISIS force.

Following his support of our counter-terror forces, Schuette returned to Midland and worked on the Public Policy team of Dow Inc., where he identified emerging geopolitical developments and their potential impact on the company’s business goals.

Schuette enjoys running, deer hunting and volunteering with the Midland Area Community Foundation. He attends St. John’s Lutheran Church in Midland, is a Trustee on the Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation, and is a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau and Midland Business Alliance.
