Chair Hernandez: Michigan income tax filing deadline is delayed until July 15
RELEASE|March 27, 2020

Rep. Shane Hernandez – chair of the Michigan House Appropriations Committee – today issued a statement after Gov. Whitmer extended the state’s income tax filing deadline to July 15, mirroring a recent change at the federal level. The order also extends filing deadlines for city income taxes to July. Earlier this week, Hernandez called for the governor to issue this order due to the coronavirus outbreak:

“This extension will provide clarity and consistency for Michigan taxpayers during these unprecedented times – and allow their focus to remain on the health of their families.

“Federal and state income tax filing deadlines for the 2019 tax year now match, which will eliminate confusion and give everyone more time to file if they need it. It’s the right thing to do, and it will benefit our state’s taxpayers as they cope with stay-at-home orders that made the traditional April 15 filing deadline impractical.”
