House Speaker Pro Tempore John Walsh, R-Livonia, today announced this week’s legislative schedule for the newly created committee on Detroit’s Recovery and Michigan’s Future.

“It’s very important that we have input from many parties as we work to reach a bankruptcy settlement for Detroit and our state,” Walsh said. “The first two meetings aim to lay the groundwork for our coming discussions and we will welcome open testimony starting Thursday afternoon.”

The committee is meeting at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 13, and will hear presentations by Walsh and Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr, who will both respond to questions from committee members. Due to time constraints, there will be no opportunity for oral testimony from the public, but written testimony is always welcome

The second committee meeting is at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 14, and will feature Walsh and colleagues who are sponsoring the 11-bill package. The schedule also calls for brief oral testimony from the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce among others. There will be no opportunity for public oral testimony but written testimony is welcome.

The final committee meeting of the week follows session on Thursday, May 15, and the schedule calls for oral testimony from the public. Written testimony is always welcome, as well.

All committee meetings will be located in House Appropriations, Room 352 at the State Capitol Building in Lansing. Those who wish to submit testimony may contact Rep. Walsh’s office at 517-373-3920, JohnWalsh@house.mi.gov or online at RepJohnWalsh.com.
