VanWoerkom supports plan to bring state cleanup dollars to Zephyr site
RELEASE|June 13, 2019

State Rep. Greg VanWoerkom today supported a budget proposal that would bring additional state cleanup dollars to the former Zephyr Oil site along the Muskegon River.

“I am proud to support this critical cleanup initiative to remove hazardous sediment from the Muskegon River,” said VanWoerkom, of Norton Shores. “Cleaning up this area has been a years’ long project, and the continued work will get us closer to removing Muskegon Lake as an Area of Concern.”

The House-passed budget proposal for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (now called the Department of Energy, Great Lakes and the Environment) included continued state assistance for the ongoing cleanup activity at Bear Lake. The plan, House Bill 4233, authorizes the department to use dollars from a fund valued at $67.4 million.
