RELEASE|January 17, 2019

Legislator to serve on House Appropriations Committee

State Rep. Greg VanWoerkom has been appointed to serve on the Michigan House Appropriations Committee. He will serve as chair of the Agriculture and Rural Development Subcommittee.

The House Appropriations Committee is responsible for helping determine the state government budget and ongoing supplemental budget appropriations. Frequently, the committee also considers legislation that is key to state budget implementation or public policy with significant budgetary expenditures.

VanWoerkom will also serve as a member of the appropriations subcommittees on Military, Veterans Affairs and State Police, General Government, and Health and Human Services.

“The decisions on how best to use taxpayer’s hard-earned dollars for the betterment of our state and communities is one of the greatest responsibilities we have as state legislators,” said VanWoerkom, of Norton Shores. “I am honored by the trust placed in me to be a part of this effort and lead on agriculture and rural development issues.”

The freshman lawmaker says his main focus will be to improve government efficiency and balance the budget while investing to ensure Michigan is strategically positioned for generations to come.
