Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield today released the following statement on the constitutionality of a pipeline in northern Michigan:

“Last year, we passed the right legislation to protect the people of Michigan, our critical waterways and our way of life. Hundreds of thousands of people rely on this modern solution to heat their homes and feed their families. We need these resources, and we need the right plan to secure them. I am glad to see the issue continuing to move forward, and I hope the courts uphold the democratically-enacted law to protect northern Michigan and our entire state.”
