Speaker of the House Jase Bolger, R-Marshall, issued the following statement after the House approved House Concurrent Resolution 11 (Common Core) this afternoon:
“Michigan parents deserve high expectations and accountability in our educational system so that all children can learn and succeed. I commend the many representatives who dedicated countless hours to do their homework throughout the summer on this issue. The subcommittee’s and Education Committee’s work on this resolution will help ensure that children across Michigan can excel with a high-quality education regardless of where they live. We need to have strong standards so that all taxpayers know their investment is providing Michigan’s children with the high-quality education they deserve.
“It is clear that moms and dads across Michigan have concerns about the tests their kids will take. We will continue working with the elected state Board of Education to decide which future tests we should fund. Today’s decision clearly shows we have more studying to do on which testing model is best for Michigan’s kids.”
