Michigan House Speaker Jase Bolger today said he has reappointed state Rep. Wayne Schmidt of Traverse City to the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission.
MIPRC, formed in 2000, currently includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin. The commission brings leaders from across the region together to advocate for passenger rail improvements as part of a statutorily approved, multi-state compact.
“The commission plays a tremendous role in helping advance rail transportation issues throughout the region, and Rep. Schmidt will continue to be a strong advocate for the state of Michigan,” said Bolger, R-Marshall.
Schmidt is the chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. He also serves on the Commerce; Energy and Technology; and Financial Liability Reform committees.
“It’s exciting to continue to serve on the MIPRC, and I thank the Speaker for the opportunity to do so,” Schmidt said. “The Midwest is a central transportation hub for our country so making sure Michigan’s interests are plugged into that system is a key for Michigan to continue to grow and create jobs.”
