Chair of the House Agriculture Committee Rep. Kevin Daley, R-Lum, National Cherry Queen Sonya Sayler and Rep. Wayne Schmidt, R-Traverse City, celebrate the 10th annual Ag Day at the state Capitol today in celebration of National Agriculture Week, March 23-29. Agriculture is Michigan’s second-largest industry, accounting for more than $91 billion of the state’s economy each year. Whether it’s dairy and livestock, fruits and vegetables, or nursery and landscape, Michigan’s agriculture industry accounts for nearly 22 percent of jobs in the state, and is especially important for northern Michigan’s economy and heritage.
