State Reps. Jeff Noble and Laura Cox today announced they will host a child car seat inspection event later this month.
September is recognized as National Highway Safety Month across the country.
To highlight the importance of properly installed car seats for children, Reps. Noble and Cox are hosting an event where nationally-certified technicians help residents correctly install their car seats. The event will take place at the following date and time:
- Saturday, Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lou LaRiche Chevrolet Dealership, 40875 Plymouth Road in Plymouth.
Rep. Cox has also introduced legislation that would update Michigan’s child passenger safety law to better align with national guidelines and move closer to the goal of greatly reducing the number of child injuries and deaths resulting from motor vehicle accidents.
“Properly installed child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent,” said Rep. Cox of Livonia. “Knowing that our child’s car seat is installed properly is peace of mind that any parent or grandparent can appreciate.”
Rep. Noble of Plymouth said: “Seventy-three percent of car seats are not used or installed correctly before people hit the road. Stopping by this event only takes a few minutes out of your day, but the information learned could end up saving your child’s life.”
Those who are interested are encouraged to stop by with their child in their car seat and the instruction manuals for both the car seat and vehicle, if possible. Expectant parents are also welcome to stop by with their car seat.
