State Rep. Ken Yonker was first elected to the Michigan House in November 2010. He represents the 72nd District, which includes Dorr Township, Leighton Township, Wayland City and Wayland Township in Allegan County as well as Gaines Township and Kentwood City in Kent County.
After graduating from South Christian High School he went to work in the mission field with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Yonker also graduated from Michigan State University College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Institute of Agricultural Technology.
Yonker is the founder and owner of Yonker’s Landscaping Inc., and has served on the local industry board as trustee and president, as well as on the state Board of Directors and the legislative committee. Previously, he worked in management for one of West Michigan’s largest and most respected construction companies. In 2002, he was elected to serve on the Caledonia Schools Board of Education.
Yonker is married to Amy and they have four children: Eric, Jason, Matt and Caitlyn.
For the 2013-14 legislative term, Yonker was chosen to serve as vice chair of the newly-created Committee on Michigan Competitiveness. He also will serve on the committees on Education; Elections and Ethics; Health Policy; and Regulatory Reform.
