State Representative David Maturen was first elected to serve the 63rd District in the Michigan House of Representatives in November 2014. The 63rd District encompasses parts of Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties.
Rep. Maturen serves as vice chair of the House Tax Policy. In addition, he serves on the Financial Liability Reform, Transportation and Infrastructure and Natural Resources committees.
Dave holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Western Michigan University.
Dave is the owner of the Portage-based real estate appraisal firm Maturen & Associates Inc. He holds a Michigan Certified General Real Estate Appraiser license, a Real Estate Broker license and the SR/WA designation from the International Right of Way Association (IRWA). He held a Level 3 Assessor Certificate for more than 30 years. Prior to starting his own business, Dave worked for 13 years for the Property Tax Division of the State Treasury Department. He is a former member and officer on the Michigan Board of Real Estate Appraisers and the Appraisal Foundation in Washington, D.C.
PUBLIC OFFICES AND AFFILIATIONS
Dave served on the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners for 12 years and was chairman from 2012 to 2014. Prior to that he was a Brady Township (Kalamazoo County) Trustee for 14 years. Dave also is a decorated U.S. Army veteran having served from 1971 to 1973. He was a Personnel Sergeant at Headquarters, United States Army Tank Automotive Command in Warren, Michigan. He served as board member and president of the Michigan Riparian Magazine in the 1990s.
Dave is a Michigan native. He grew up in Essexville (Bay County) and has been a resident of Indian Lake in Brady Township near Vicksburg since 1980. He has been married to his wife, Nancy, for 45 years. They have three grown daughters and two granddaughters. Dave loves the Michigan outdoors, and enjoys boating, skiing and tennis.
