Detroit Bankruptcy Settlement Overview – Rep. Joel Johnson’s May 20 letter to residents
97th DISTRICT State Rep. Joel Johnson was first elected in November 2010 to the Michigan House to represent the residents of Clare, Gladwin, Arenac and part of Osceola County including Evart city and the townships of Evart, Hersey, Highland, Marion, Middle Branch, Orient, Osceola, Sherman and Sylvan. He was re-elected to a second term for the 2013-14 Michigan Legislature. COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS Johnson serves on the House committees for Agriculture, Commerce, Financial Services, Judiciary, and Natural Resources. EDUCATION Johnson earned a degree in Agricultural Business Management from Michigan State University and is a former FFA chapter president. PROFESSIONAL Prior to election, he was manager of a Clare business, Johnston Elevator. Johnson is the owner/operator of a small, local farm and he has worked for large corporations, small corporations and local cooperatives. He is a former president of the Clare Area Chamber of Commerce and served as a board member for Michigan Agri-Business Association and the Clare County Farm Bureau where he worked with state and federal lawmakers on behalf of agriculture issues. PERSONAL Johnson, born in Saginaw, was raised in Merrill. He and his wife Dawn have been married for over 30 years. They have four children and eight grandchildren. The Johnsons enjoy hunting, motorcycling, gardening, waterskiing, exercising, and taking part in many family activities. He and his family are active in the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Harrison. Johnson is a member of the Clare County MSU Alumni, Clare Rotary Club, local and national Right To Life, and National Rifle Association. Johnson is a long-time supporter of 4-H and a former volunteer for Boy Scouts of America.
Monthly Office Hours Schedule
Meetings with residents of Osceola and Clare counties are normally on the last Monday of each month and for people in Gladwin and Arenac counties on the last Friday of each month. In the event of holidays, please watch for rescheduling.

Friday, Aug. 29:
- Standish City Hall, 399 E. Beaver St. in Standish, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
- Gladwin Community Arena and Library, 402 James Robert Drive in Gladwin, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
