State Rep. Rick Outman was first elected to the Michigan House in November 2010. He represents the 70th District, which includes Montcalm County and portions of Gratiot County including the cities of Alma and St. Louis as well as portions of Arcada and Emerson townships and the townships of Bethany, Pine River and Seville.
Outman is a graduate of Lakeview Community Schools. He earned a bachelor of science and teaching degree from Grand Valley State University.
Outman is the owner and operator of Outman Excavating, based in Six Lakes. He also is a substitute teacher in the area when needed. He is a U.S. Army combat veteran with service in Beirut, Lebanon. After his Army service, Outman joined the 1073rd National Guard unit in Greenville.
Rick and his wife Kris have three children and one grandchild. The family attends New Life Methodist Church in Lakeview. He also is an active member of many organizations, including the National Rifle Association, Right to Life of Michigan, Six Lakes Chamber of Commerce, Montcalm County Farm Bureau and is a member of the Hough-Pontius #3701 VFW post in Lakeview. Outman is involved in area schools, assisting with the Lakeview Schools wrestling teams and as tournament director for Lakeview Freestyle Club. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Montcalm County Soil and Conservation District and also is a member of the Austin Hunting Club in Atlanta, Mich.
Outman serves as a member of the Committees on Agriculture, Communications and Technology, Energy Policy, and Military and Veterans Affairs.
