State Representative Kevin Cotter was elected in November 2010 to serve the citizens of the 99th House district. The 99th district encompasses all of Isabella County, as well as eleven townships in Midland County.
Representative Kevin Cotter brings a broad array of experience to the House of Representatives, most recently serving as a partner at the Kerr Law Firm, PLLC in downtown Mt. Pleasant. Prior to that, Cotter worked in the transportation industry, working with two companies where his duties included supervising in-bound shipments, human resources management and overseeing safety operations.
Representative Cotter is a graduate of Shepherd High School and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Entrepreneurship and Business Administration, as well as a Master’s of Science in Administration, both from Central Michigan University. He also earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
During his first term, Representative Cotter was appointed to the Appropriations Committee, where he also serves on four subcommittees. Cotter will serve as Chairman of the Judiciary subcommittee, as well as Vice Chair of both the Higher Education and Supplementals subcommittees. He will also serve on the Community Colleges subcommittee. Prior to being elected, Cotter was selected by incoming Speaker of the House Jase Bolger to serve on the Committee on Committees, which made recommendations to the Speaker on which committees members would serve on, based on their interests, experience and requested committees.
Cotter lives in Union Township, in Isabella County, with his wife Jennifer. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time in Michigan’s outdoors. He also enjoys golfing, snowmobiling, hunting, boating and spending time with friends and family.
