State Rep. Tom Barrett invites residents of the 71st House District to join him for a cup of coffee and conversation during his local coffee hours.
The meet-and-greet will be held Friday, March 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Wee Willie’s located at 365 State Street, Charlotte, MI 48813.
“I look forward to the opportunity to meet with some of the people of Eaton County,” said Rep. Barrett, R-Potterville. “Meeting face to face to talk about the concerns of citizens is one of the parts of being a representatives I enjoy most.”

State Rep. Tom Barrett was first elected to serve the 71st District in the Michigan House of Representatives in November 2014. The 71st District encompasses most of Eaton County including the cities of Charlotte, Olivet, Potterville, Grand Ledge, parts of Lansing, as well as the townships of Bellevue, Benton, Carmel, Chester, Delta Charter Eaton Rapids, Kalamo, Oneida Charter, Roxand, Sunfield, Vermontville, Walton, and Windsor Charter.
Barrett chairs the House Agriculture Committee and is a member of the Energy Policy, Military and Veteran Affairs, Government Operations and Insurance committees.
Barrett graduated from Western Michigan University with honors, earning a bachelor’s degree.
After graduating public high school, Barrett joined the U.S. Army and has continued his service for over 15 years. He is currently serving in the Michigan Army National Guard as a helicopter pilot trained on several different aircraft. He has served overseas in South Korea, Guantanamo Bay, Kuwait, and Iraq. Barrett is a veteran of both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom and has been awarded multiple Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medals and other decorations. He holds the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2.
After returning home from Iraq, Barrett was hired as an analyst by the Michigan Department of Treasury and worked at the operations center in Dimondale.
PUBLIC OFFICES AND AFFILIATIONS
Tom served as the Michigan Treasury’s Good Government liaison to the governor’s office. He also served as the treasurer’s designee on the Michigan Land Bank board, focusing on areas of blight elimination and land re-utilization. Barrett was also the co-chairman of the Employee Recognition subcommittee for liaisons from different state departments who seek ways to recognize and appreciate fellow state employees for their accomplishments.
Barrett is also a member of the National Rifle Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Barrett currently resides in Potterville with his wife Ashley. They welcomed their son Patrick to the family in 2013 and their daughter Eleanora in 2014.
