State Representative Daniela R. García announced the start of her summer reading program throughout the community. The summer reading program encourages children to read over the summer months and win a chance to join Rep. Garcìa in Lansing for a day with their family.
“Spending a little bit of time reading over the summer is absolutely vital for the future of our students,” García said. “This contest is about instilling a life-long habit that will benefit our children throughout the rest of their time in school and beyond.”
The contest is open to any child in first through fifth grades. Participants should complete a Rep. Garcia Summer Reading Contest bookmark for every 10 books they read and drop it off at participating libraries before Friday, Sept. 1.
Additional bookmarks with contest rules are available on Garcia’s website. The lucky winner and their family will join Rep. Garcia in Lansing as “Rep for a day” this fall.
Participating libraries include:
- Gary Byker Memorial Library, 3388 Van Buren St. in Hudsonville;
- Howard Miller Public Library, 14 S. Church St. in Zeeland; and
- Herrick District Library, 300 S. River Ave. in Holland.
