Rep. Yaroch continues to prioritize road repairs for Michigan residents
RELEASE|January 25, 2019

Measure redirects corporate subsidies to state’s infrastructure

State Rep. Jeff Yaroch recently introduced a proposal to redirect an additional $60 million in existing state funds to help fix Michigan roads each year.

Yaroch’s plan redirects a portion of revenue raised from the Indian Gaming Compact to the Michigan Transportation Fund to help repair roads across the state.

“Everyone knows Michigan’s roads need a lot of work – and this proposal will provide more resources to get the job done,” Yaroch said. “The money redirected by this proposal now goes to corporate subsidy programs. Frankly, it makes more sense to put that money into road repairs instead. One of the greatest hindrances to business coming to Michigan is our poor roads, so we should focus our economic development resources there.”

House Bill 4093 has been referred to the House Transportation Committee.

Yaroch, in his second House term, continues to fight for several proposals to prioritize fixing Macomb County roads.

Yaroch has advocated for allowing townships to receive road repair money directly from the state. He also proposed accelerating the 2015 road plan so that more of the state income tax would go to roads and improving the road funding formula to get more money to the places that need repairs the most.
