EO allows e-signatures, remote transactions during COVID-19 outbreak

State Rep. Doug Wozniak today commended the governor for issuing an executive order that will make it safer and easier for Michigan residents to plan their estates during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Wozniak, an elder law attorney, worked with the Elder Law Section of the State Bar and the governor’s office to develop Executive Order 2020-41, which will protect the health and safety of Michiganders by reducing unnecessary in-person contact, through the use of electronic signatures, remote notarizations, remote witness attestations and acknowledgments, and remote visitations.

“This will allow Michigan residents to complete estate planning and other necessary transactions during this public health crisis without unnecessarily risking their health and safety,” said Wozniak, of Shelby Township. “I’m glad the governor was willing to listen to our concerns and make the necessary adjustments to protect people during this time of uncertainty.”
