House approves long-overdue bipartisan no-fault solution

State Rep. Doug Wozniak of Shelby Township today joined House colleagues in approving a bipartisan plan to deliver guaranteed rate relief for drivers across the state.

The House overwhelmingly voted to approve legislation guaranteeing lower rates by giving drivers more choice on personal injury protection (PIP) coverage, stopping price gouging on medical services for car accident victims, and combating fraudulent claims to help lower costs. The plan still allows those currently using unlimited PIP coverage to keep it, and those who want it in the future to continue buying it.

“Although not perfect, the bipartisan compromise made with the governor is a great first step in delivering much-deserved rate relief to Macomb County drivers and motorists across Michigan while maintaining best-in-the-country medical coverage,” Wozniak said. “In time, we can work further on the system and generate more ideas while saving drivers a significant amount of money at the same time. I will continue to fight for enhanced unlimited benefits for our Michigan residents.”

Senate Bill 1 now advances to the Senate for final legislative approval and will soon be headed to the governor for her expected signature.
