State Rep. Doug Wozniak, of Shelby Township, today commended the Michigan Court of Appeals for unanimously upholding the constitutionality of the law to allow a tunnel to be built for the Line 5 pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac.

“This is a big win for Michigan’s local economies and the best option for protecting our state’s natural resources,” Wozniak said. “I have always stood in favor of the Line 5 project – the decision reached by the state is going to save and create thousands of jobs in our communities, while also transporting propane to families who depend on it to heat their homes. I am pleased to see this project moving forward.”

While Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Attorney General Dana Nessel continue to push to shut down Line 5, Wozniak said the court rulings show their arguments hold no merit.

“It’s frustrating there are extremists out there who continue to spread misinformation about this project,” Wozniak said. “The construction of Line 5 will not only protect the water of our cherished Great Lakes, but Enbridge is completely footing the bill. This is a $500 million project that will not raise taxes for our hard-working residents.”
