State Rep. Mary Whiteford welcomed three students and their families to the Capitol as junior representatives for a day, to experience the life of a Michigan state legislator.
Throughout their day in Lansing, the students held a mock committee hearing, toured the Capitol, and were introduced during House session.
Students entered the contest by turning in bookmarks with a list of books they had read at local libraries. Winners were selected at random and invited to spend the day with Rep. Whiteford at the Capitol.
“It was a privilege to host these wonderful students and their families for the day,” Whiteford said. “I am impressed by their enthusiasm for reading as well as their interest in our state government.”
