RELEASE|January 17, 2019

Legislator will serve on House Appropriations Committee

State Rep. Mary Whiteford has been appointed to serve on the Michigan House of Representatives Appropriations Committee. She will serve as chair of the Health and Human Services Subcommittee.

The House Appropriations Committee is responsible for helping determine the state government budget and ongoing supplemental budget appropriations. At more than $25 billion, the Health and Human Services budget is the largest of the state’s budgets.

Whiteford will also serve as a member of the Health Policy Committee as well as the Appropriations Subcommittee on Joint Capital Outlay.

Now in her second term, Whiteford brings experience to the role, previously serving as chair of the Environmental Quality Subcommittee and as vice chair of the Agriculture and Rural Development Subcommittee. She is also a registered nurse and operates a financial planning firm.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to advocate for what’s most important to the people of Allegan County,” said Whiteford, of Casco Township. “I know what matters to them, and I will fight for their interests while standing up for responsible spending and efficient government.”

Rep. Whiteford’s office can be reached at (517) 373-0836 or [email protected].
