Rep. Wentworth named Legislator of the Year by Michigan organization
RELEASE|June 21, 2019

State Rep. Jason Wentworth, of Clare, this week was honored as Legislator of the Year Award among state representatives and senators by the Small Business Association of Michigan.

“I am honored and humbled to be recognized by the Small Business Association of Michigan for Legislator of the Year,” said Wentworth, of Clare. “We share many of the same values and goals, and we’ve worked closely together to deliver results for the many small businesses across the state that are creating jobs for Michigan families.”

Wentworth has spent his entire tenure as state representative pursuing policies that lessen the burden on job creators and encourage great success and investment in Michigan’s growing economy.

Wentworth spearheaded legislation – now Public Act 423 of 2018 – establishing the Rural Development Fund to encourage investment in rural areas of the state that were left behind during Michigan’s recent economic recovery. The fund provides an alternative for small, rural businesses that have trouble attracting new capital or getting approved for business loans.

“Growing up watching my father run his construction business, I know firsthand the sacrifices small businesses make each and every day and the challenges they face when up against burdensome regulations,” Wentworth said. “Michigan’s economic success in recent years hasn’t come by accident, and small businesses cannot afford to reverse course with ill-advised tax hikes only hindering momentum. I look forward to continuing our partnership in advocating for and crafting impactful legislation that will help create jobs and bring prosperity to our communities.”
