State Rep. Hank Vaupel, of Handy Township, has been chosen to serve as the chair of the Michigan House Health Policy Committee, on which he previously served as vice chair.
“One of my greatest priorities for this legislative term is to ensure that we achieve attainable, reliable and available health care for everyone in Michigan,” said Vaupel, who served as a veterinarian for over 40 years. “I look forward to the opportunity to serve our state in this capacity.”
House committees review all legislation that affects their issue area and make recommendations as to whether the full House should take up the bills. Committee chairs decide when bills are heard, run the committee meetings and organize informational hearings to help lawmakers and the public understand important issues.
The House Health Policy Committee is responsible for deliberating on issues related to public health, health professionals, mental health and wellness, and overall access to healthcare.
Vaupel was also appointed to serve as a member of the House Committees on Tax Policy, Michigan Competitiveness and Insurance.
“I’m pleased to have the opportunity to serve on committees that deal with issues important to Livingston County,” said Vaupel. “It’s an honor to represent your voice at the Capitol.”
Bills have begun being introduced on the House floor and committees will begin meeting in February.
