State Rep. Scott VanSingel, of Grant, issued the following statement after Gov. Rick Snyder’s 2017-18 budget presentation today in Lansing:

“We need to strengthen our state’s foundation, which includes education and our roads, bridges and water and sewer systems. The governor’s recommendations included dedicating more funding towards improving our infrastructure and education-based programs.”

“I agree that working with our local governments and public safety, along with being frugal with money given to us by the taxpayers, are all crucial to our state’s future. My focus is on the state today and building for tomorrow. That’s why I’m emphasizing roads and bridges, along with our K-12 education, expanding vocational programs in high schools and increasing skilled trades training to help expand our employee base.”

VanSingel is vice chair of the House Appropriations Environmental Quality subcommittee in addition to a member of the Transportation, Corrections and Natural Resources Subcommittees.
