Rep. Sheppard on State of the State: We must work together to move Michigan forward
RELEASE|January 30, 2020

“Michigan has made a lot of progress over the past decade, and we cannot allow our momentum to slow down just because the governor is from one political party and the Legislature’s majority is from another. We must work together to solve problems and get things done to improve the lives of families in every corner of our state.

“The governor and the Legislature share responsibility for Michigan’s success, which is why we must work together to develop a responsible road improvement plan. The people of Michigan expect us to prioritize government spending and use the resources we already have more wisely before talking about bonding or increasing taxes. In fact, part of the reason why our roads are so bad is because the state is still paying off debt connected to bonds sold between 2001 and 2011 – costing taxpayers nearly $200 million a year. We shouldn’t kick the problem further down the road and ask our kids to pay our bills.”
