Rep. Sheppard joins committee helping shape Michigan’s state government budget
RELEASE|May 29, 2019

State Rep. Jason Sheppard of Temperance will serve on an influential Michigan House committee that plays a vital role in developing the state government budget.

Sheppard was recently appointed to the House Appropriations Committee by Speaker Lee Chatfield. Sheppard’s first meeting with the committee is expected soon.

“The state budget affects the lives of Monroe County resident in countless ways,” Sheppard said. “From schools to public health to support for local communities, I am excited about developing budgets that invest in what matters most to families while protecting taxpayers.”

The House Appropriations Committee is developing its initial budget plan for the fiscal year that starts Oct. 1. Sheppard will serve on the Joint Capital Outlay subcommittee and will also vote on issues affecting all state government and education budgets.

Sheppard was first elected to the Michigan House in November 2014. He is in his third term.

Sheppard serves as the House majority caucus whip, and will continue his duties with other important committees in addition to his new appropriations assignment. Sheppard chairs the Government Operations Committee, is vice chair of the Elections and Ethics Committee, and serves on the Transportation and Financial Services committees.
