Rep. O’Malley: The fight for Pure Michigan continues
RELEASE|March 6, 2020

State Rep. Jack O’Malley today commended the ‘Pure Michigan’ campaign for its many benefits to Michiganders throughout the state, while also understanding the need for it.

The first-term Legislature said the movement not only creates thousands of jobs, but it also positively represents Michigan and all its treasures.

“Ask anyone in the Fighting 101, and they’ll tell you how vital this program is to our local economies,” O’Malley said. “That’s why I continue to urge the Appropriations process to include Pure Michigan in any supplemental budget moving forward.”
O’Malley and several of his colleagues last year urged Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to restore millions of dollars she vetoed for the program.

“The Legislature was able to restore about half the funding back, but the fight continues for crucial additional funding without raising taxes as we move forward,” O’Malley said.
O’Malley applauded Pure Michigan’s Vice President David Lorenz for a presentation on the campaign this week in the House Commerce and Tourism Committee.

“David shared that a significant percentage of people from out of state who saw a 2019 Pure Michigan advertisement were more inclined to want to take a trip here,” O’Malley said. “That’s something we can all be proud of. With our beautiful seasons and something to do from Detroit to Leland, to Marquette, I think we can all agree we’re lucky to live here – and that’s why I am pressing for funds to be restored.”
