State Rep. Mike McCready today announced a combined state grant award of $14,900 to FIRST Robotics programs at Birmingham Public Schools and Bloomfield Hills Schools.

Birmingham’s Automation Nation was awarded $2,500, with 46 additional robotics programs in Bloomfield Hills receiving a total of $12,400.

“I commend Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills for their excellent FIRST Robotics programs,” McCready said. “Thanks to the Michigan Department of Education’s continued investment in our schools, students have the ability to learn about science and technology in an engaging and proactive way.”

FIRST is an international educational organization focusing on the development and implementation of science and technology in schools. The state awarded over $2.5 million in grants to FIRST programs in public and non-public schools this year. Since 2014, Michigan has invested over $12 million to FIRST programs.
