State Rep. Matt Hall (R-Emmett Twp.) applauded the Michigan State Police for awarding state grant funds to two local school districts to strengthen school safety.

Homer Community Schools will receive $93,844 and Harper Creek Community Schools will receive $209,300 to upgrade school safety as part of the Competitive School Safety Grant Program.

“Protecting our students, teachers, and faculty from harm must be a top priority of our state government.” Hall said. “I will continue to support policies like the Competitive School Safety Grant Program that make our schools safer places for students to learn.”

The Competitive School Safety Grant Program was created in 2018. Over 130 public school districts, 60 non-public school districts, 20 public charter schools and nine intermediate schools districts will receive $25 million. The grant money is used to purchase technology and equipment to improve the safety of students, faculty, and buildings.
