Rep. Mary Whiteford supports emergency investments to address soil erosion
RELEASE|March 13, 2020

Rep. Mary Whiteford has voted in favor of an emergency budget plan to support residents facing soil erosion in Allegan County and throughout all Michigan lakeshore communities.

“Lakeshore residents rightfully expect the Legislature and the governor to work together to protect our Great Lakes communities,” Whiteford said. “Our area has been plagued for months by unprecedented rising water levels. These important investments are a step in the right direction.”

The budget measure included Whiteford’s request of $5 million in grants for local units of government to deal with infrastructure issues created from high water along the Great Lakes shoreline and inland waterways.

The lawmaker said she is also working with Allegan County Emergency Manager, Scott Corbin, to address the ongoing problem.

The budget plan, Senate Bills 151, is expected to be signed by the governor in the coming days.
