Rep. Markkanen announces grant to eliminate blight
RELEASE|April 5, 2019

State Rep. Greg Markkanen, of Hancock, announced today the Village of Ontonagon, Bessemer, Houghton County Land Bank, Ironwood, and Ontonagon Township will receive funds to fight blight.

“I am thrilled to see more investments flooding into our communities,” Markkanen said.  “These investments not only clean up blighted structures but also bring new job opportunities to our community and bolster our local economy.”

The Michigan Land Bank Fast Track Authority evaluated the submitted proposals and awarded grants based on the impact that the project will have on enhancing economic development. The money will be used to demolish vacant and abandoned structures, promote public safety, and enhance property value. Each proposal can receive up to $50,000 in funds.
