State Rep. Pete Lucido, of Shelby Township, today hosted two special guests chosen to join the lawmaker as Reps. for a day.
Taylor and Sydney Wheeler, both students at Monfort Elementary School in Shelby Township, were selected as the winners of Rep. Lucido’s summer reading contest. The contest, which took place between May and August, invited students to fill out an entry bookmark each time they completed reading 10 books, for a drawing to win a trip to the Capitol.
“It is inspiring to see dedicated young students demonstrate the importance of reading and learning during their down time in the summer months,” Lucido said. “We have two future leaders in these individuals that are setting the example of how to ensure success for the rest of their lives.”
Taylor and Sydney were sworn in as junior representatives and toured the Capitol with Lucido before joining him on the House floor to be recognized during session.
“I always enjoy bringing students onto the floor to see firsthand what we do on a daily basis,” Lucido said. “This is the type of thing that motivates me while I am up here working for the people.”
