Rep. Pete Lucido braved the frigid, windy winter weather to help raise money for Special Olympics at the Legislative Polar Plunge today outside the Capitol.
This year, numerous lawmakers participated in the annual event, with temperatures in the mid-twenties and wind chill reading in the low teens. The event raises money for nearly 21,000 athletes who participate in Special Olympics Michigan. The plunge raised over $13,000 this year for the year-round program, which offers a wide range of sports and activities for those with intellectual disabilities.
“This is a wonderful event that I enjoy doing,” said Rep. Lucido of Shelby Township. “It is always great to see what kind of outfits people wear, and this year I decided to show my love for my Italian heritage. Although we all jumped into some extremely cold water, it really is worth it to bring attention and raise money for an important cause. I can’t wait to continue this tradition next year!”
