Rep. Leutheuser, Sen. Shirkey commend rural focus of infrastructure grant
RELEASE|March 13, 2019

State Rep. Eric Leutheuser today applauded an announcement of $200,000 to be invested in critical infrastructure and utility improvements in Coldwater and Hillsdale. The upgrades are possible thanks to Rural Development Fund Grants from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD).

“I am excited to see this important investment in our communities,” Rep. Leutheuser said. “This is one step in improving and updating our infrastructure, and it is encouraging to see MDARD prioritizing Branch and Hillsdale counties.”

Senate Majority Leader Shirkey, whose district includes both counties, also commended the investment. “I am excited about this step forward to make Michigan the best possible home for family, talent and opportunity, and jobs,” the senator from Clarklake said. “This is a much-needed boost to the economic comeback of our community.”

Rural Development Fund Grants are designed to promote sustainability of land-based industries and support infrastructure that benefits rural communities. The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities will receive $100,000 to conduct needed improvements for the Water Resources Recovery Facility, and the City of Hillsdale will receive $100,000 for storm sewer and road repairs. A total of 16 projects across the state were selected for grants out of 66 applications.
