Rep. Leutheuser praises downtown Hillsdale investment
RELEASE|April 24, 2019

Today, state Rep. Eric Leutheuser applauded an announcement of $1,415,000 to be invested in historical and economic development of downtown Hillsdale. The funds will be used to restore the historic Dawn Theater, transforming the currently vacant structure into a community venue for movies, special events, and private rentals. Additionally, the city of Hillsdale anticipates the creation of 27 new jobs through the investment.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to honor and preserve our rich local history while starting a whole new chapter in the story of our town,” Rep. Leutheuser said. “We’ve seen continued improvements in historic downtown Hillsdale. This dramatic restoration and renewal will be something we can all be proud of.”

The investment comes as part of a Community Development Block Grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Planned repairs include restoration of the original brick façade and windows, floor replacement, roof work, and making the theater handicap accessible.
