New legislative website to provide public interaction, latest news on reform

State Rep. Eric Leutheuser (R – Hillsdale), recently announced the creation of a special website to keep people informed about the House Select Committee on Reducing Car Insurance Rates while giving Michigan drivers a simple way to provide their input.

The website, www.ReduceMiRatesNow.com, allows anyone to easily offer input that could help shape future legislation, and gives state representatives another method to hear ideas and concerns.

“Branch and Hillsdale County residents know firsthand how Michigan’s no-fault car insurance system hurts their pocketbooks,” Leutheuser said. “Car insurance premiums are drastically lower in other states. Our rates are contributing to a shortage of workers as we try to get people who left Michigan during the recession to move back. This website is a great opportunity for drivers to submit reform ideas or stories to the House committee specifically tasked with making rates more affordable for all motorists across the state, and be part of the process finding a lasting fix.”

The website includes a news tab allowing residents to keep up to date with developments and committee meeting schedules. Ideas submitted by Michigan drivers concerning legislation will go directly to the committee, assuring every submission will be considered.

“Michigan drivers directly affected by the highest average car insurance premiums in the nation deserve to have their voices heard,” Leutheuser said. “I encourage everyone to join the deliberative process and submit their ideas on how to lower car insurance rates.”

Leutheuser also encourages residents to follow the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ReduceMiRatesNow/ to see the latest news regarding the committee.
