Rep. Kahle calls on governor to fix glitches, address wait times for unemployment claims
RELEASE|April 2, 2020

State Rep. Bronna Kahle today called on the governor to take aggressive actions to address wait times and other problems with the Unemployment Insurance Agency:

“While protecting the health and safety of Michigan families is certainly the top priority for our state government right now, the governor shouldn’t forget about all of the people who are unable to bring home a paycheck because of this health crisis and the stay-at-home order she issued. People who are counting on unemployment insurance to put food on the table for their families are not able to get their claims in because the system is overrun with problems.

“I hear from people who spend all day waiting for the website to load, only to have it freeze or lock them out. When they try to call the phone line, they sit on hold for hours unable to get through. People are desperate for help, and the system is failing them.

“I urge the governor to shift more resources to the UIA, so we can get more people into the system and get people the help they need as quickly as possible.”
