Rep. Jason Sheppard, R-Monroe County; audio on distracted driving legislation
RELEASE|March 3, 2019

Rep. Sheppard talks about his legislation to increase the penalty for texting while driving in Michigan from $100 for a first violation to $250, and from $200 for a second violation up to $500.  Other legislation in the same package would add reading an email or sending a message on cellphone social media apps to the list of banned activities for drivers.  Rep. Sheppard argues current law needs better definition and stronger deterrents.
