Bipartisan bill package in response to Nassar scandal approved by House
State Rep. Larry Inman, of Traverse City, today issued the following statement after the state House approved a bipartisan plan to strengthen Michigan’s response to criminal sexual conduct:
“This plan will make it virtually impossible for any kind of sexual predator to exist in Michigan. The Larry Nassar scandal and the #MeToo movement have brought the seriousness of this issue to the attention of the wider public. It is important to us as a state to respond to these issues quickly and appropriately, which these bills do, by addressing the crime of sexual assault wherever it may be. One in six women will face some type of sexual assault in their lives. My votes today will make everyone, both men and women, safer in their homes, as well as at our local college campuses, communities, schools and even doctor’s offices.
“This plan goes after the awful monsters who commit sexual assault, gives victims many avenues to get help and makes our state stronger as a whole. That is why every single one of the bills we voted on today got my vote.”
