Rep. Holly Hughes, R-Montague; audio on victim impact statement legislation

Categories: Audio

Rep. Hughes talks about her testimony Tuesday in the House Law and Justice Committee with the mother and sister of murder victim Rebekah Bletsch’s on her 5407 requiring anyone convicted of a crime to hear the impact statements of their victims or victim’s families.  Bletsch’s convicted murderer, Jeffrey Willis, requested to leave his Dec. 18, 2017 sentencing hearing before Rebekah Bletsch’s family made their statements. Current state law has no specific legal requirement that anyone convicted of a crime be forced to listen to statements, as it is left to a judge’s discretion.
