Rep. Griffin applauds recent TEDF grant awarded to Village of Lawrence
RELEASE|May 31, 2019

State Rep. Beth Griffin, of Mattawan, announced the Village of Lawrence will be receiving a Transportation Economic Development Fund (TEDF) grant to help with the completion of road construction projects for the 2020 fiscal year.

The Village of Lawrence was recently awarded a TEDF matching fund grant of $94,500 to help cover the costs of a mill and fill from East St. Joseph Street to the end of Blackman Street, as well as the removal and replacement of a culvert at the creek crossing. The funds will also cover a mill and fill on South Street from Paw Paw Street to Blackman Street. A mill and fill is a structural pavement reconstruction that involves the removal of the existing surface layer and restores it to a “like new” condition. The total cost for both projects is an estimated $189,000.

“These grant dollars are crucial to helping the Village of Lawrence pay for long-term improvements to these roads, as opposed to just temporary fixes,” Rep. Griffin said. “I’m thankful to MDOT for investing in our Southwest Michigan infrastructure.”

The TEDF operates under the Michigan Department of Transportation and was established to provide additional road funding for cities and villages with populations of 10,000 or less.  TEDF staff select the most competitive applications based on criteria such as projects on roadways not eligible for other state or federal funding, partnering with other road agencies, and pairing with other infrastructure work and preventative maintenance projects.
