Rep. Frederick to host roundtable discussion with area farmers, experts
RELEASE|September 17, 2019

State Rep. Ben Frederick, of Owosso, today invited all farmers in the 85th House District to attend an interactive discussion with legislators and experts engaged in the top issues facing Michigan’s agriculture industry.

The 85th House District includes all of Shiawassee County as well as Brady, Brant, Chapin, Chesaning, Fremont, Jonesfield, Lakefield, Maple Grove, Marion and Richland townships in Saginaw County.

Frederick has invited House Agriculture Committee vice chairman Luke Meerman to host the discussion planned for Sept. 27. Meerman is a fifth-generation dairy farmer from West Michigan who also owns a business specializing in agricultural machine repair.

“Amid challenging times for Michigan’s farmers, it’s important to bring together all stakeholders to discuss the most pressing issues facing this critical industry,” Frederick said. “I am glad to bring together our region’s farm community, along with the expertise of Rep. Meerman and local and national leaders from the soybean industry. I look forward to hearing more about what can be done to aid our farmers and farming communities.”

Also joining Frederick and Meerman are Janna Fritz—a crop farmer from Bad Axe and executive director of the Michigan Soybean Association —and Ryan Findlay, CEO of the American Soybean Association and a native of Caro.

This meeting is open to the public. For those interested in attending, please RSVP to [email protected].

The discussion is planned to begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 27. It will be held at the farm of Don Somers located at 18272 W Ridge Road, Henderson, MI 48841.
