State Rep. Ben Frederick will serve on the Health Policy, Energy, Insurance and Regulatory Reform committees during the 2019-20 legislative session.
Committee appointments were announced last week by House Speaker Lee Chatfield.

“These assignments give me an opportunity to address a wide range of issues that matter to people throughout mid-Michigan,” Frederick said. “I will continue working on solutions that make Michigan a better place to live, work and raise a family.”

In regard to Health Policy, Frederick said he is looking forward to working closely with Memorial Healthcare and health professionals throughout the area.

“This is an outstanding opportunity to improve the mental health system, help curb opioid abuse and address the rising costs of health care,” Frederick said.
Serving on the Regulatory Reform Committee will allow Frederick to focus on simplifying laws and removing regulations that serve as obstacles to Michigan’s economic success.

The Energy Committee addresses issues related to the generation and distribution of electricity in the state.

“All Michigan families are affected by energy policy. The issue of reliable and available energy is especially relevant in rural Michigan,” Frederick said.
Frederick said his position on the Insurance Committee goes hand-in-hand with his appointment to a special committee on reducing auto insurance rates.

“Insurance costs make up a significant portion of every family’s budget,” Frederick said. “I will work with my colleagues to put forth insurance reforms that better fit the needs of families, seniors and workers throughout the state.”

Frederick, now in his second term, brings experience to his new role. During the 2017-18 term, he served as chairman of the House Workforce and Talent Development Committee with workforce priorities continuing to be a key focus in the new term. He also previously served as a member of the Commerce and Trade, Local Government and Agriculture committees.
