State Rep. Kathy Crawford of Novi welcomed the three-peat state champion Novi Wildcats volleyball team to the Capitol on Thursday.
“These ladies, as well as their coaches, represent their school and the entire community. We are extremely proud of them and their success,” Rep. Crawford said. “This is a fantastic program that allows students to use their ambition to further their education.”
Novi setter Erin O’Leary received special recognition for being awarded the 2017 Miss Volleyball trophy. The Wildcat senior also has been selected as Gatorade’s Michigan Volleyball Player of the Year for the second straight year. O’Leary played a part in all three state championships and has committed to the University of Michigan to continue playing.
Also receiving acknowledgement was Wildcat coach Jennifer Cottrill. Coach Cottrill is a finalist for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year award. Under Cottrill’s guidance, Novi has had an unprecedented era of excellence, climbing to a 270-36-3 record during her coaching tenure.
