RELEASE|January 17, 2019

State Rep. Kathy Crawford this week was appointed chair of the House Families, Children and Seniors Committee for 2019-2020 by Speaker Lee Chatfield – a key leadership position tasked with improving life for all Michigan residents, including the most vulnerable.

“I am honored to receive this appointment shaping policies that will help create a better future for Michigan residents of all ages,” said Crawford, of Novi. “The safety and well-being of our most vulnerable is incredibly important to me, as it should be to all of us. I look forward to leading this committee and working with my House colleagues to help improve life across the state.”

Crawford was one of the founders of the Michigan Association of Senior Centers. She assisted the state of Michigan in writing the rules to certify professionals who work in the field of aging, and was Michigan’s second senior center director to become certified. She was also the Special Recreation Coordinator for Parks and Rec for the City of Novi, and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Michigan Recreation and Park Association Hall of Fame.

Crawford also received several other committee assignments for the 2019-20 session. She will serve as a member of Regulatory Reform, Local Government and Education committees.

Crawford is serving her third term representing the residents of Lyon Township, the Oakland County portion of Northville, the city of Novi and Novi Township, the city of South Lyon and Walled Lake.
