Rep. Cole’s bill to streamline process for overweight vehicle transport permits signed into law

Legislation introduced by state Rep. Triston Cole to allow applicants to obtain an annual oversized vehicle transport permit was signed into law today by Gov. Rick Snyder.

The bill requires the Michigan Department of Transportation to allow drivers to obtain an annual permit for the movement of construction equipment that exceeds the size, load, or size and load maximums specified without requiring a separate permit for each individual piece of equipment transported.

“This legislation simplifies the permitting process for vehicles that carry oversized equipment,” said Rep. Cole, of Mancelona.

A permit may also be stored and presented by the holder using a mobile device. This will make a valid permit easier to access and less likely to get lost.

House Bill 4644 is now Public Act 17 of 2018.
